The Healthy Habits Movement by The Discovery Park
Every Child is a Hero.
From Screens to Skills. From Gadgets to Greatness. A programme that recognises achievable, individual progress — and helps every child build habits that last.
Why it matters
Childhood has moved indoors. We help bring it back outside.
Many children's days are now screen-heavy, with little physical activity and limited time outdoors. Our programme gives schools and families a practical, positive way to change that routine together — through sport, nature, creativity and recognition, not pressure.
Our camps and programmes are educational and developmental. They are not a medical or therapeutic service.
How it fits together
One movement, five working parts
The mission
Healthy Habits Movement
A shared commitment by schools, families and mentors to more movement, more nature and healthier routines.
The journey
Self Discovery League (SDL)
A structured year of monthly mentorship and quarterly outdoor camps.
The shared experience
School camps
Days outdoors where a whole class tries, struggles, succeeds and celebrates together.
The daily practice
Discovery Passport & Quest Board
Simple tools that turn small daily actions into visible progress.
The identity
Every Child is a Hero
Recognition for effort, consistency, teamwork, courage and kindness — as well as sporting performance.
Habit focus
Six habits we practise together
| Habit | In practice |
|---|---|
| Movement and nature | Daily age-appropriate movement and regular outdoor experiences. |
| Nutrition and hydration | Simple food and water routines supported by parents and school mentors. |
| Reading and reflection | Reading time, learning notes and a short end-of-day reflection. |
| Sleep and device discipline | Family-agreed routines and realistic screen boundaries. |
| Gratitude and helping | Small actions at home and positive participation in the group. |
| Goal setting and recognition | Personal challenges, mentor reviews, badges and certificates. |
Progress cycle
Small goals. Daily practice. Real recognition.
Each child records a starting point, chooses a small goal, practises daily, reviews progress monthly with a mentor and celebrates improvement. Longer camps are structured practice with continuing support — habits grow with time and encouragement.
Where we use a Discovery Growth Index, it is a developmental tool with a clear, shared method — not a clinical assessment.
